Using Craft Pattern

Craft Pattern helps you follow a PDF you own, keep row and repeat counts, and leave a useful next step. This private beta is for review; keep original files and a separate backup of important progress.

Try it in five minutes

  1. In the library, choose Try the practice project, or create a project and import a readable, unlocked PDF you are permitted to use.
  2. Turn to page 2, pinch to zoom and drag the peach reading guide.
  3. Advance the row and repeat counters. Use Undo to restore the last counter change.
  4. Add a next-time note, leave the project and reopen it. Check the page, zoom, guide, counts and note.
  5. In the library, choose Backup & restore. Save a .craftbackup file, inspect it, then restore it as copies. Existing projects should remain unchanged.

The bundled practice PDF is original walkthrough material, not validated knitting or other craft instructions. There is no account, advertising, paywall or subscription in this beta.

Files and storage

Import accepts readable, unlocked PDFs up to 50 MiB. Your original PDF remains unchanged. If a provider file will not open, first download it locally in Files, then select it again. Large or complex files may be slower; some PDFs are not suitable for this beta.

A backup is a versioned JSON-based file containing project metadata and embedded PDF bytes. It is not encrypted. Keep it private. Restore adds independent project copies rather than replacing current IDs. Limits are 200 projects, 64 MiB combined PDF content, 50 MiB per PDF and 128 MiB encoded backup. SHA-256 checks detect corruption; they do not authenticate who created a backup.

The app's private library is excluded from automatic device backup. Save portable backups regularly and before deleting the app. Deleting the app can remove your local progress. Exporting to a cloud provider is a choice you make in the system file picker, not automatic app synchronization.

If saving or opening fails

If a change cannot be saved, the previous committed library remains in place. Check available storage, close and reopen the app, and try again. If the library cannot be read, editing is disabled and the existing files are preserved. Do not delete the app or replace storage to clear an error before saving any available backup and contacting support.

Notes are limited to 2,000 characters. An overlong draft cannot be saved; Cancel keeps the previously saved note. Counter undo retains the latest 100 changes. Deleting a project removes its saved progress but does not change the original PDF outside the app or separately exported backups.

Beta feedback and help

Use TestFlight's feedback tools or email help@steelyardventures.com. Include the app version/build, device model, iOS version, the action that failed and what you expected. Include a screenshot only if you are comfortable sharing everything visible in it. Do not send patterns, backups, credentials or private notes unless you choose to share them for investigation. No response deadline or background support monitoring is promised.

When a beta expires, install a newer build if one is available in TestFlight. Beta expiration does not make Craft Pattern a reliable sole record of a project. Export a backup while the build is available.

License

Apple's standard app license is the intended App Store licensing baseline; no custom license has been drafted. Apple's TestFlight terms also govern participation in the beta. Neither this support guide nor a successful import grants rights to another person's pattern.

See Use & safety in the app for the practical limits and PDF rights reminder. These usage notes supplement the help; they are not a custom EULA or a waiver of legal rights.
